Purpose of Lab Coat

A lab coat is designed to protect medical and healthcare professionals from harmful substances they might come into contact with.

A laboratory coat is a symbol of the medical and healthcare industry. Medical professionals, chemical researchers, laboratory technicians and others who are exposed to hazardous materials and dangerous substances typically wear these coats as a form of protection.

Basic coats used in a laboratory are generally made from polyester and cotton and are designed specifically for safety and to protect wearers from exposure to dangerous chemicals, infectious substances and hazardous materials. For example, laboratory coats can be specially treated to increase its resistance to fire as well as certain solvents. The type of material you choose for your coat should be suitably treated for safe use in the type of laboratory or environment they will be used in; work hazards must be considered, as well as the types of liquids and materials they will be exposed to.

A coat designed for wear in a laboratory in itself will not be able to provide complete protection to its wearer. Hygiene is a priority when it comes to the laboratory-worn jacket. A lab coat worn by a laboratory or a medical professional like doctors and nurses not only protects its wearer but also helps others identify these professionals as medical staff.
